Antigua is famed for its stunning beaches, with 365 beautiful beaches, locals claim there is a beach for every day of the year and as the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean islands, Antigua boasts almost as many days of warm sunshine to enjoy them. The powdery soft pristine beaches and the crystal clear waters of Antigua attract snorkellers and scuba divers from across the world.

The skyline of St John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda is dominated by the magnificent white baroque towers of St John’s Cathedral; these can be clearly seen when arriving at Antigua by boat. St John’s is a lively hub with its cruise ship dock, numerous hotels and opportunities for shopping and dining.

Attractions

On the more developed North West coast of Antigua, Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay are the place to go for those who are looking for the resort beach experience. Whilst the less developed beaches of the South West corner of Antigua provide a perfect escape for those looking for peace and tranquillity amongst stunning surroundings. On the road that winds along this coast are Fryes Bay, Darkwood Beach, and the beaches around Johnson’s Point.

Beaches good for families include, Half Moon Bay, a national Park on the South East corner of Antigua and Long Bay on the easternmost point of Antigua, this beach is perfect for families as it is completely protected by its reef.


Activities

Not only does Antigua boast some of the best beaches to be found anywhere, should you tire of relaxing on the pristine shores there are a number of sights waiting to be explored. Visit Shirley Heights where you can look out over the English Harbour, Sunday is the best time to visit when you can relax with a bbq, rum punch and the plangent strains of steel band and reggae music.

Visit Sea View Farm Village, the centre of Antiguan folk pottery manufacturing, clay is collected form nearby pits and the wares are fired in an open fire under layers of green grass in the yards of the potters' houses.


Climate

Antigua the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands has a pleasant year-round topical climate which remains warm and relatively with low humidity throughout the year. The average daily temperature drops a few degrees in winter (December to March) from the usual high of around 81°F (27°C). Antigua is fairly dry throughout most of the year except during the rainy season (mid-September to November) when daily showers can be expected. Hurricane season runs from June to November and visitors are advised to keep an eye on the weather forecast during this period.
