Havana - The capital of Cuba lies on the north of the island in a natural harbour. All you have to do to see a different side of Havana is wait until nightfall. After dark the city comes alive with the soul and rhythm of the Caribbean. Soft music floats through the night air, couples dance the salsa and the rum cocktails flow. Party animals will enjoy the charged atmosphere which you will find in Havana. Discos, clubs and bars open late into the night and the beat of the music fills the air until the early hours of the morning. The Tropicana is a great place to catch performances of Cuban dances and Vegas style extravagance. Founded in 1931 the club has played host to greats like Jack Nicholson and the one and only Nat King Cole. Those seeking a great nightclub should head to the Havana Café which has great décor. When local bands are playing this is the place to come for some great nightlife and to get into the dancing spirit.

Music and dance play an important part in the soul of the island so where better to get into the Latin spirit and learn to salsa. Organised classes can be arranged by most hotels which will give you the basics to be able to enjoy it. Once you have got the basics right hit the clubs and bars and dance with the locals. You are guaranteed to have fun!

Climate

In the summer the average temperature in Cuba is 25 degrees, while in winter the temperature averages a balmy 21 degrees. This subtropical climate of the island is mainly due to its location in the Caribbean. November until April are the peak months for holidays in Cuba. During these months the temperatures remain high and the chances of rainfall are greatly reduced. The wet months from May until October may also bring severe weather conditions including hurricanes which blow in from the Atlantic.

The mountainous regions of the island experience lower day and night time temperatures and can be quite chilly in the winter months. Moving to the water and temperatures keep above 25 degrees all year round making this great for swimming, scuba diving or snorkelling.
