The Dominican Republic is an ideal tropical escape boasting crystal clear waters, pristine shores and verdant forests all bathed in wonderful Caribbean sunshine. Dominicans are lively, friendly people, a mixture of Spanish and African with a hint of indigenous Amerindian; their country reflects their nature, colourful and diverse.

Drag yourself away from the beautiful shores and you will discover a wealth of architecture, including churches and palaces all displaying the Spanish Colonial heritage of the Dominican Republic. The native Amerindian heritage takes a little more discovering, but there are an array of Taíno archaeological sites and cave drawings to be seen.

Visit the Bayahibe Region of the Dominican Republic and discover an abundance of Latin spirit and blissful beaches. Shimmering white shores and the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea are perfect for those looking for a luxurious beach holiday, relax amongst the swaying coconut palms, linger over a tropical drink from a beach bar or take a dip in the glimmering ocean to cool off. Snorkelling and scuba diving are fabulous here, head to the nearby Cavo Lavantado and explore the glorious coral reef which encircles this beautiful island. Should you tire of the stunning beaches take a trip to the fascinating capital, Santa Domingo, here you can wander the streets of the old Spanish Colonial Quarter and barter for souvenirs at the bustling market.

Feel the stress slip away on a break to the Puerto Plata Region of the Dominican Republic, here you can relax on golden shores, refresh in the clear waters of the ocean, the waters here teem with marine life or unwind with a tropical cocktail and the enchanting sounds of Merengue music. Climate

The most popular time to visit the Dominican Republic is from December to February, July to August and Semana Santa (the week before Easter). Please note that throughout Semana Santa most water sports and activities are prohibited. The best time to visit the Dominican Republic is thought to be February and November, when crowds are thinner, the carnival is held and there is the opportunity to go whale watching.
