The lush green volcanic island of Saint Lucia is one of the most scenic and romantic in the Caribbean. Dense green forest covers the hills and peaks while the shore is a mix of beaches and secluded coves. Adventurers will love the range of activities on offer such as mountain biking, climbing and trekking. Those looking to relax a little more can be pampered at spas or simply soak in the sun on a platinum beach.
Saint Lucia may be a small island but it is strikingly varied and rich. The most famous landmark on the island is the twin peaks of the Pitons which rise seemingly out of the ocean. These giant hills were once the walls of a volcano which was blown apart when it erupted some 40,000 years ago. These days the taller of the two makes a great walk while the smaller peak provides a challenging climb which should only be attempted by experienced mountaineers.
Attractions
Pigeon Island National Park is located in the north of the island and is a mountainous region of forests, fortifications and sculpted lawns. There is a museum here which charts the history of the island from the days of the Arawak Indians to colonial days. Simply walking through the park you will be able to enjoy the sounds of nature and the fresh fragrance of tropical flowers. Trails lead down to the beach where you can find the Jambe de Bois beach bar, ideal for those hot summer days.
Marigot Bay is one of the prettiest bays on the whole island. This secluded bay is flanked by palm trees and steep hills which surround the white sandy beaches. Turquoise waters fill the bay, while bars and restaurants line the seafront. Come here for a beautiful and tranquil location where you can chill out in style.

Climate
|
The driest time of year in Saint Lucia is between the months of December and May. This is also winter time and the temperatures are at their coolest. Fear not though as daytime temperatures range from 23 to 32 degrees during the day and 15 to 27 at night. The rainy season takes place from June to November and is also the hottest time of the year. Heavy tropical showers clear the air before the sun returns heating the air to a balmy 37 degrees. All throughout the year there the trade winds act and help to provide a cooling wind to this Caribbean gem.
